PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT JULY 2009 SCHEDULED AIRLINE TRAFFIC REPORT
- Three Airlines Report Increases
PITTSBURGH, PA (September 11, 2009) – AirTran Airways, Southwest Airlines and Myrtle Beach Direct Air all reported an increase in traffic at Pittsburgh International Airport (www.FlyPittsburgh.com) in July 2009 compared to July 2008 according to the July 2009 Scheduled Airline Traffic Report prepared by the Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA).
AirTran reported a total of 51,300 passengers for July 2009 compared to 44,363 for July 2008 for an increase of 15.6 percent (51,300 passengers in July 2009/44,363 passengers in July 2008; 15.6 percent increase). For the year, AirTran traffic is up 31.2 percent (386,252 through July 2009/294,330 through July 2008). July 2009 is the 31st consecutive month that AirTran has shown an increase in traffic. The previous time the AirTran had any decrease in traffic at Pittsburgh International Airport was in January of 2007.
Other airlines reporting growth in traffic for July 2009 include Southwest (143,366/134,362; 6.7 percent increase) and Myrtle Beach Direct Air (6,716/5,037; 33.3 percent increase).
A total of 751,609 scheduled passengers were enplaned and deplaned at the airport in July 2009, an 8.7 percent decrease compared to July 2008 (751,609/823,510; 8.7 percent decrease).
US Airways, which reported an 18.1 percent decrease (219,246/267,859; 18.1 percent) had the largest decline in passengers. Delta (83,667/95,538; 12.4 percent), United (73,793/78,435; 5.9 percent), Continental (49,565/50,978; 2.8 percent) Northwest (46,787/49,317; 5.1 percent); American (36,915/41,961; 12.0 percent), JetBlue (17,590/21,300; 17.4 percent), USA3000 (11,993/21,651; 44.6 percent), Midwest (7,396/8,357; 11.5 percent), and Air Canada (3,275/4,352; 24.7 percent) also reported decreases for the month.
Year-to-date figures show traffic behind the pace of 2008 by 10.2 percent. Through the first seven months of 2009 4,674,323 scheduled passengers have traveled at Pittsburgh International Airport compared to 5,203,935 during the same time period in 2008.
