PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT JUNE 2009 PASSENGER TRAFFIC REPORT

• AirTran traffic grows by 10.5%; up 34% for year
• United's service to LAX and SFO to begin Aug. 18

PITTSBURGH, PA (August 7, 2009) – AirTran Airlines continued its impressive growth at Pittsburgh International Airport (www.FlyPittsburgh.com) as the airline reported a 10.5 percent increase in traffic in June 2009 compared to June 2008 according to the June 2009 Scheduled Airline Traffic Report prepared by the Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA).

AirTran reported a total of 45,218 passengers for June 2009 compared to 40,925 for June 2008 for an increase of 10.5 percent (45,218 passengers in June 2009/40,925 passengers in June 2008; 10.5 percent increase). For the year, AirTran traffic is up 34.0 percent (334,952 through June 2009/249,967 through June 2008).

“AirTran’s performance has been outstanding,” said Bradley D. Penrod, Executive Director and CEO of the Allegheny County Airport Authority. “Just five years ago in 2004, AirTran had slightly more than 27,000 passengers in a month and 150,000 through half a year. Passengers are responding good air fares, service and choices.”

Adding to those choices will be United Airlines with its new nonstop flights from Pittsburgh International Airport to Los Angeles and San Francisco, which will start August 18. These new nonstops will make Pittsburgh International Airport one of 15 airports across the country which has service to all five United's hubs in Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. This creates many opportunities for convenient domestic and global connections.

A total of 741,711 scheduled passengers were enplaned and deplaned at the airport in June 2009, an 8.3 percent decrease compared to June 2008 (741,711/808,528; 8.3 percent decrease).

US Airways, which reported a 12.6 percent decrease (221,375/253,262; 12.6 percent) had the largest decline in passengers. Southwest (137,546/142,589; 3.5 percent), Delta (82,852/93,896; 11.8 percent), United (71,701/75,351; 4.8 percent), Northwest (50,760/51,152; 0.8 percent); Continental (49,407/51,609; 4.3 percent), American (38,591/40,789; 5.4 percent), JetBlue (19,687/20,853; 5.6 percent), USA3000 (9,984/19,921; 49.9 percent), Midwest (6,300/9,299; 32.3 percent), Myrtle Beach Direct Air (4,635/4,665; 0.6 percent), and Air Canada (3,655/4,217; 13.3 percent) also reported decreases for the month.

Year-to-date figures show traffic behind the pace of 2008, by 10.4 percent. Through the first six months of 2009, 3,922,714 scheduled passengers have traveled at Pittsburgh International Airport compared to 4,380,425 during the same time period in 2008.
