PITTSBURGH – About 100 law enforcement officials, airport emergency responders and employees, and civilian volunteers will conduct an active shooter training exercise on Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Concourse C, the International Arrivals area and on the airfield near C gates at Pittsburgh International Airport.
The exercise will include the firing of blank cartridges by trained personnel. Civilian volunteers will play the role of victims in the scenario and may be seen evacuating the terminal.
The exercise will be closed to the public and media. Signs and messages inside the terminal will be posted, and incoming aircraft notified that a drill is in progress.
“Due to incidents that continue to occur in and around public facilities, we must ensure that our employees and partners are properly trained and ready to respond no matter what or where the situation,” said Brian Colella, Senior Vice President of Public Safety and Airport Operations.
Normal airport operations will not be affected by the exercise, and provisions have been made to ensure the ability to respond to an actual emergency should it occur during that time.
