DESCRIPTION:PIT Music for Airports is an annual celebration of ambient music and emotional atmosphere in travel\, featuring Pittsburgh-based artists to reinterpret Brian Eno’s seminal work\, Music for Airports\, and transform the airport into a space of calm\, creativity\, and serenity. In March 2026\, travelers and staff at PIT will again experience ambient music from March 9th – March 12th. \n“The sonic exploration contained in Brian Eno’s Music For Airports is one of the most unique pieces of sound design in that it encapsulates every space it’s played in. As a seminal piece of music\, it remains timeless and relevant and was a gateway for me into adjacent ambient heroes like Aphex Twin and Hiroshi Yoshimura.” \n2020k is a Queer Pop and Experimental Electronic project solely headed by artist RJ Kozain\, who was raised and currently resides in the Pittsburgh\, PA area. 2016’s “Burst Mode” is the debut album from 2020k and was almost exclusively written\, produced\, engineered\, and released (via a self-started independent label imprint\, 2020k LLC) by Kozain himself and was re-released in a digital deluxe format on Bandcamp in December 2019. The record addresses various subjects with its music and visual presentations on how humanity interacts with technology in the 21st century\, as well as explores themes of anxiety\, love\, politics\, queer art\, and sexuality. “Burst Mode (Digital Deluxe)” comes after a long recovery with post-concussion syndrome that came on a week before the original release of the record and lasted a year and a half.

Kevin\, along with his band served as the Pittsburghʼs WJJJ Smooth Jazz Band for more than two years\, performing at various events sponsored by the radio station. \nKevin recently toured with and was the musical director for jazz saxophone legend Ronnie Laws\, also recorded and performed with saxophonist Marion Meadows\, Norman Connors\, Lonnie Liston Smith\, Najee\, and George Benson. In March 2026\, travelers and staff at PIT will again experience ambient music from March 9th – March 12th. \n”The airport is a slow teleportation device that allows a person to wake up in one place and dine in another\, thousands of miles away. This rush of possibility arouses different emotions: ebullience and ecstasy\, stress and annoyance\, pensiveness and acceptance. Brian Eno coined the term “ambient” to describe the music and\, perhaps\, also set it apart from the hollow cheerfulness of muzak and easy listening. Ambient music does not insist on an emotional change. It doesn’t insist on anything. Eno wrote\, “it must be as ignorable as it is interesting.” \nFormed in 2016\, How Things Are Made–the trio of Brian Riordan\, Matt Aelmore\, and David Bernabo–are a contemporary electroacoustic band\, often performing ambient and drone-based works to accompany dance and reiki sessions or\, alternatively\, experimenting with computer programming to create new processes for making sounds. \nFor a performance at the airport\, the band would be the duo of Brian Riordan and David Bernabo. We would like to take a page from Brian Eno’s “Music for Airports” record and produce gentle\, tonal music that emulates the feeling of floating in space and “diffusing the anxious atmosphere of an airport terminal.” We will be playing synthesizers and custom electronic software to allow for real-time composition. \nThe band has released 84 records\, produced two six-hour concerts overstuffed with guest musicians\, commissioned 50 compositions from the likes of Sarah Hennies\, Helen He\, and Jonghee Kang\, and most recently produced a series of four-hour continuous drone music concerts that were accompanied by dancers from The Pillow Project.

DESCRIPTION:Dr. Helga Scheibert began her musical training at the High School of Arts in Targu Mures\, Transylvania at age 7. She has experience performing with orchestras both as a soloist and collaborator. She has performed several solo and chamber recitals in the U.S. and in Europe and had performances broadcast on Romanian National Radio\, West Virginia Public Radio. She is the winner of numerous piano auditions and competitions including Duquesne University Concerto Competition\, Intersection of Classical and Jazz Piano Competition\, Pittsburgh Concert Society. \nShe holds a Bachelor in Piano Performance from Gheorghe Dima Music Academy (Romania)\, Artist Diploma and Masters from Duquesne University (Pittsburgh) and a Doctorate in Piano Performance from West Virginia University (Morgantown). \nCurrently she serves as faculty at Carnegie Mellon Preparatory School\, and she is accompanist at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. She enjoys composing\, improvising\, and experimenting with classical\, jazz\, folk\, and modern music.

DESCRIPTION:Lee Robinson is an accomplished saxophonist and jazz musician from Clairton\, PA\, known for blending jazz improvisation with funk\, fusion\, original compositions\, and contemporary music for over 40 years\, both locally and nationally. \nIn 1979\, he founded ISKA\, his first professional jazz quartet\, which has become his most recognized ensemble. ISKA features some of the region’s most innovative musicians. As a music and arts experimenter\, Lee has collaborated with poets\, actors\, and visual artists on various projects. He made an appearance as a street saxophonist in the film “Cemetery Club\,” and his original music score is featured in the PBS documentary “JOBS: A Way Out.” \nLee Robinson has opened for notable acts such as Stanley Clarke and Bachman\, Turner\, Overdrive\, and they have performed alongside numerous respected musicians.

DESCRIPTION:Naomi Ruth “Nairobi” Allen is a singer-songwriter\, rapper\, actress\, poet\, theatrical and creative director\, teaching artist\, visual artist\, entrepreneur\, and activist from Pittsburgh\, Pennsylvania. She is blessed to use her art and empower others to use their voices and she strongly represents her brand of “Individuality\, Divinity\, and Purpose.” She wants to inspire the youth to know themselves through God\, embrace themselves\, and to never stray away from their God given purposes. Her music is timeless\, purpose driven\, a vibe\, and openly highlights social issues that she has overcame and is presently dealing with\, such as sexual abuse\, mental health\, and body positivity. \nIn 2016\, she won the August Wilson Monologue competition and as a result was awarded a $20\,000.00 scholarship to attend Point Park University\, where she received her BFA in Acting in the Spring of 2020. The same year she was named the youngest recipient of Pennsylvania’s Most Valuable Person on behalf of the mayor and the Bill Neal Foundation. In 2018\, she was the youngest recipient honored by the Pittsburgh Public Schools during Black History Month for her work in art and activism. Through this\, she was featured in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and WAMO\, giving her access to new platforms in which she could continue to grow her following and make her presence in Pittsburgh known. She has also been featured in the Pittsburgh Courier\, Pittsburgh Post Gazette\, Pittsburgh City Paper\, NPR\, CNN\, and has performed on Broadway. She has opened for Freeway and Beanie Sigel in 2017\, Jessica Care Moore in 2019\, Kuf Knotz and Rapsody in 2024\, and Dr. Cornel West in 2024. She has also graced the Broadway stage and was briefly mentored by Denzel Washington\, Kenny Leon\, and Bill Nunn.
