The new, state-of-the-art Pittsburgh International Airport has arrived.
Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) is a bold industry disruptor redefining the role of an airport – a mission furthered by the completion of its airport-wide modernization in 2025. Led by CEO Christina Cassotis, PIT has transformed air travel through this ambitious project, designed to better meet the needs of the region’s travelers by reflecting, connecting and serving Pittsburgh. Built by the hardworking people of the region, the Transformed PIT is the front door that connects Pittsburgh to the world, and the world to Pittsburgh.
In this video, community members and leaders discuss how the Transformed PIT has made a difference in the Pittsburgh region.
Key Features of the Transformed PIT
Art in the Airport
Over 80 percent of art and cultural installations throughout the Transformed PIT come from local artists and artisans.
Baggage Claim
A new state-of-the-art baggage handling system decreases the conveyor belt system from eight to three miles, resulting in shorter luggage travel time from plane to baggage claim.
Concessions Expansion
As part of PIT’s transformation, the airport is opening 15 new local and national concessions, including Mineo’s Pizza, Shake Shack, Champion City Sports and more.
Parking
More than 6,000 new spaces, including 2,300 additional covered spaces and shuttle service from existing lots, make parking at PIT easier than ever, with both new parking facilities providing a short walk to the new terminal.
Roadways & Bridges
Approximately four miles of new roadways connect Interstate 376 to the new terminal via a network of ramps and smaller bridges, and a 1,300-ft dual-level terminal bridge brings visitors directly to the departures, arrivals and ground transportation levels at the new terminal building.
Security Upgrades
The new PIT terminal helps passengers move through security quickly with 12 security lanes, state-of-the-art screening equipment and updated electronic displays.
