Our Story
The Allegheny County Airport Authority Story
We have reimagined what Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) and Allegheny County Airport (AGC) can do to support the community we serve. Beyond operating two airports, the Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA) has set a vision for growth, innovation and opportunity for our nearly 500 employees and for the Pittsburgh region – and we have been recognized internationally for the work we do and how we do it.
We are the gateway to a region ever on the rise, a region in the midst of yet another renaissance, driven by world-class education and healthcare, a growing innovation economy, an affordable cost-of-living, with good jobs and a can-do spirit.
We welcome visitors from all over the world to experience Pittsburgh’s history and culture, restaurants and entertainment, the natural beauty of our region and the progress and impact made by our dynamic business, academic, medical, scientific, charitable and start-up communities.

At the ACAA, we are reimagining the role of airports in our world. PIT is the first major airport to be completely powered by a microgrid using our own natural gas and solar energy, forging a path of resiliency and sustainability being copied around the world. We are relentlessly pioneering new energy innovation including the creation of hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuel onsite.
Our xBridge Innovation Center supports the Pittsburgh region’s technology talent by partnering with local and global companies to use PIT as a real-world testing ground for the latest aviation technology. At the same time, airlines have taken note, working with many of these companies on-site to improve efficiency and streamline service.
We continue to break down barriers to entry to the regional workforce as well as for those working at the airport, which is why we established an in-terminal childcare center and created our own workforce development program – because we believe in equal access to opportunity. The ACAA is an economic engine that works for all levels of employment and education.
And we are on track to open a transformed PIT in 2025 – the airport Pittsburgh deserves.
Our ethos is to always ask; “Why not?” The recognition we receive speaks volumes. The innovation we inspire says even more. Follow our progress and how we are redefining the role of airports and aviation by subscribing to Blue Sky News. Discover what airports can be.
25th Anniversary
At the end of 1999, Republican and Democratic politicians pinned their hopes for the future on a bold experiment to create the Allegheny County Airport Authority.
The model encouraged redefining what an airport is and gave rise to a host of innovations, including a microgrid that completely powers the campus, an advanced manufacturing campus at Neighborhood 91, and Presley’s Place, an innovative sensory room that created a blueprint for accessible spaces worldwide.
“All of that is really meant to deliver value back to the community and to the global industry,” said Christina Cassotis, CEO of the ACAA.
