These mammal family portraits were inspired by Cecil’s 2016 artist residency at Pittsburgh’s beloved Carnegie Museum of Natural History. The paintings of nursing mammals were modeled after dioramas in the museum’s Hall of Wildlife. Deciding which species to include was determined by a public poll whereover 100 votes were cast, and this list of favorites was finalized. Cecil combined the paintings to create this contemporary twist on a toile wallpaper, which is also installed in the museum’s award-winning breastfeeding room.
