Utopia II

atiya jones, 2024

This piece of artwork comes from a series titled Brain Maps: Winter Offerings (2022-2023). Intended to represent a safe island with dual beaches and tides moving outward, this piece represents the multiple developments of self within one realm.

Like much of her artwork, UTOPIA (II) explores escapism and isolation. When viewed horizontally, as displayed here, it provokes the comfort and peace that the artist finds at the beach. Each of the smaller lines represent individual thoughts and brain waves that come together to make up the bigger picture, while the calm waves towards the edges glide in like tides – a meeting between the mind and the natural world.
