Confluence

Talley Fisher, 2022

Rivers are the lifeblood of civilization, especially in Pittsburgh, with its three rivers flowing through the heart of the city. At the confluence where the Allegheny and the Monongahela Rivers form the Ohio River, Pittsburgh’s rich history of industry merges with technology, healthcare and educational institutions, creating a vibrant city full of culture, diversity and opportunity. Confluence is a suspended sculpture with ripples of blue and aqua flowing through the concourse, and the piece honors and symbolizes the three rivers of Pittsburgh. Patterns on the piece interact to give the illusion of movement, especially from the moving walkway below.

About the Artist

Talley Fisher is an artist from Central Pennsylvania who specializes in large-scale suspended sculpture. She takes inspiration from her ingrained love of nature, often turning to organic patterns found in the surrounding landscapes to influence her designs. Rendering these abstract forms through industrial materials opens the artwork to interpretation and encourages dialogue between the intersection of art, nature, and technology. Her work can be seen in Hong Kong, Macau, the UAE, and across the United States.
