Fraley’s Robot Repair: The Pittsburgh International Airport Branch is the second iteration of the project. Originally commissioned as part of Project Pop-up Pittsburgh: Downtown in 2011, Robot Repair transforms an empty storefront at the end of Concourse A into a fictional, old-fashioned repair shop—for robots.
The installation invites viewers to imagine a future in which humanoid robots are seamlessly integrated into daily life. Richly detailed elements, both large and small, are periodically and subtly changed throughout the temporary exhibition, encouraging close observation and repeat discovery. At its center is the lead character, “The Lonely Robot,” who creatively passes the time while the shop owners are away.
Materials: Mixed Media
Location: Concourse A, Post-security Terminal
Type: Installation
