FAQs

How does Lost and Found find owners of found items?
PIT uses a Lost and Found software solution that assists in finding the owners of lost property and researches items for identifying information and characteristics. Once a property has been matched with the owner, email notification or phone call will be sent to the owner and they will be given restoration options.
How will I claim my property if I’m not in PIT Airport?
PIT’s Lost and Found provides FedEx shipping options through the online lost property reporting system, which is Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliant. You may also arrange to have someone claim your item on your behalf. To retrieve an item, the owner or assignee’s ID must be presented.
How much does this cost?
The Airport Lost and Found does not charge any fees to file a lost property report. Please ensure that you only submit your report directly through PIT’s Lost and Found team, as there has been an increase in unverified third-party websites charging fees to recover lost items.
How will the lost and found team communicate with me?
Our team will contact you via phone or email and may reach out to you for further information regarding your item.
I filed a claim and have not received a response yet.
We appreciate your patience as we work to locate your item. By submitting an inquiry, you should receive status updates on your item. Please check your SPAM or Junk Mailbox to ensure you are receiving the communications.
What happens to an item that is not claimed within 30 days?
Recovered items shall be available for return to their rightful owner for a period not to exceed thirty (30) days. Our lost and found team will make every effort to return items to their rightful owners with information available. If no return is completed within thirty (30) days, the item shall then be deemed the property of the Authority. All unclaimed items are sent to auction or donated to local charities.
Why was my claim closed?

Claims are closed for one of the following reasons:

  • We did not receive your item.
  • We did not receive the information requested to verify ownership.
  • You did not recover your item within 30 days.
