How to Buy Tickets

There are multiple ways to buy your airline tickets. Choose the method that’s most convenient for you.

Book Directly with the Airlines
  • If you are connecting from Altoona, Bradford, DuBois, Lancaster or Morgantown to Pittsburgh, you can book directly at iflysouthern.com.
  • If you are traveling to another destination, take advantage of Southern’s interline agreement with American Airlines, using Pittsburgh as a connecting city. The American Airlines interline is available at AA.com or by calling the American Airlines call center at 800.433.7300 or Southern Airways call center at 800.329.0485.
  • If you are connecting from Johnstown to Pittsburgh, you can book directly at boutiqueair.com. If you are traveling to another destination, take advantage of Boutique’s codeshare agreement with United Airlines, using Pittsburgh as a connecting city.
  • If you are flying on another airline other than American or United, you must book two separate tickets on the airline.
  • If you are traveling to Europe from Altoona, Bradford, DuBois, Lancaster or Morgantown, take advantage of Southern’s interline agreement with Condor, using Pittsburgh as a connecting city. To book, call the Southern Airways call center at 800.329.0485.

  • From  Altoona, Bradford, DuBois, Lancaster or Morgantown: To take advantage of Southern’s interline agreement with American Airlines, enter your city as the origin and your final destination.
  • From Johnstown: To take advantage of Boutique’s codeshare agreement with United Airlines, enter your city as the origin and your final destination.
  • If you are flying on an airline other than America or United, search and book your ticket from your regional airport to Pittsburgh International Airport. Then, repeat the process from Pittsburgh International Airport to the final destination of your choice. Do not search from your regional airport straight to your final destination to help ensure you receive your preferred schedule.

Please remember to check the departure and arrival times and dates of both flights prior to booking to ensure ample time between flights. If you will be checking a bag, it is recommended that you allow 90 minutes between your flights. If you will not check a bag, 60 minutes is recommended.

What to Expect on Your Travel Day

Once you depart from your regional airport, you will land at Pittsburgh International Airport.

If you checked a bag

If your flight is booked through American Airlines or Condor Airlines under a single reservation, your checked bags will be transferred automatically to your next flight.

  • Deboard the plane and follow signage to baggage claim.
  • Take the automated People Mover train to retrieve your bag from the baggage claim area on the first floor of the Landside Terminal.
  • Take the elevator or escalator to the third floor and recheck your bag with the appropriate airline for your next flight.
  • Follow signage to security and go back through the security checkpoint.
  • Once you are back in the airside terminal, enjoy the many amenities of Pittsburgh International Airport as you wait for your next flight.
If you did not check a bag
  • Altoona, Bradford, DuBois, Lancaster and Morgantown passengers will land at gate B41. Johnstown passengers land at gate A16. All terminals will be easily accessible from where you land.
  • Deboard the plane and enjoy the many amenities of Pittsburgh International Airport. From shops to restaurants, you will have plenty to do as you wait for your second flight.

Do I have to go through security again?

If you checked a bag on your first flight and are not using the interline agreement with American Airlines or Condor Airlines, then yes you will need to go through security again.

  • Deboard the plane and follow signage to baggage claim.
  • Take the automated People Mover train to retrieve your bag from the baggage claim area on the first floor of the Landside Terminal.
  • Take the elevator or escalator to the third floor and recheck your bag with the appropriate airline for your next flight. 
  • Follow signage to security and go back through the security checkpoint.

Once you are back in the airside terminal, enjoy the many amenities of Pittsburgh International Airport as you wait for your next flight.

Do I have to reclaim my bags?

If you checked a bag on your first flight and are not using the interline agreement with American Airlines or Condor Airlines, then you will need to reclaim your bag in the baggage claim area.

  • Deboard the plane and follow signs to baggage claim
  • Retrieve your bag from the baggage claim area on the ground floor
  • Take the elevator or escalator to the third floor and recheck your bag with the appropriate airline for your next flight
  • Follow signage to security and go back through the security checkpoint

At this time, Boutique Air is serving Johnstown and Southern Airways Express is serving Altoona, Bradford, Dubois, Lancaster, and Morgantown.

How much time should I leave to connect to my next flight?

Please allow 60 minutes between your flights if you did not check bags or if you are using the interline agreement with American Airlines or Condor Airlines. If you checked a bag with another airline other than American, we recommend you allow 90 minutes to provide ample time to retrieve your checked bag and recheck it.

How can I get to downtown Pittsburgh from the airport?
Where do I find my checked bag?

Your checked back will be in the baggage claim area at Pittsburgh International Airport. To get there:

  • Deboard the plane and follow signs to baggage claim
  • Retrieve your bag from the baggage claim area on the first floor

If you are continuing on to a second destination:

  • Take the elevators or escalator to the third floor and recheck your bag with the appropriate airline for your next flight
  • Follow signage to security and go back through the security checkpoint
What happens if my flight gets delayed and I miss my connecting flight?

If you are using the interline agreement with American Airlines or Condor Airlines, you will automatically be rebooked on the next flight to your destination.

If you are flying on another airline other than American Airlines or Condor Airlines, contact a Customer Service Agent from the designated airline at the airport, or call their customer service number which can be located on their website.
