Runway Safety Area Improvements at Allegheny County Airport (AGC)

In 2021, the Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA) will begin an Environmental Assessment of potential improvements to the Runway Safety Area (RSA) of Runway 10-28 at Allegheny County Airport (AGC).

An RSA enhances the safety of aircraft that undershoot, overrun, or otherwise leave the paved runway surface, and the airport must keep the RSA cleared, graded, drained, and accessible by firefighting and rescue equipment1. RSA standards are defined by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

A standard RSA for Runway 10-28 at the Allegheny County Airport is not feasible so the analysis team, including engineering and environmental professionals, are studying the feasibility of several different solutions or combinations of solutions.

The Allegheny County Airport Authority has extended the public comment period on the Draft EA by 30 calendar days.
The comment period will now close at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2022

In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA) released a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) on February 27, 2022 for public review and comment. The Draft EA evaluates the potential environmental impacts to improve the Runway 10-28 Runway Safety Area (RSA) at the Allegheny County Airport (AGC) located in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania. The Proposed Project is recommended in order to meet standards and safety requirements as established by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for runways serving the types of aircraft that typically access AGC.

The Draft EA will be available for public review through May 2, 2022 at the following locations:

ACAA will provide a hardcopy or flash drive of the Draft EA and/or the Public Workshop presentation upon request. Please call (412) 476-2000 or email to request a copy of the materials.
