PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh International Airport is pleased to announce the return of its Performing Arts Series, featuring local musicians and artists of all genres, to the airport this spring. On Thursday afternoons beginning March 30, the airport will feature artists performing in Baggage Claim and potentially other areas of the terminal.The Performing Arts Series, which is partially funded by a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, is part of the Art in the Airport program, and was started in 2016. The program strives to feature talented local artists performing original material for arriving passengers, those waiting to pick up loved ones and airport employees.Live music performances have been well received in our airport and in others throughout the U.S.,” said Allegheny Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis. “It's a great way to feature local talent, showcase our region, improve the airport ambiance and provide an extra amenity for the traveling public.”Last year, about 35 artists - pianists, harpists, guitarists, duos, trios, and soloists, were featured. Performers are paid a stipend and the airport provides promotional and set up support.Performances will take place primarily on Thursdays in Baggage Claim. Travelers, those picking up travelers, airport employees and the general public are invited to attend. Parking is free for up to one hour in the Extended Parking Lot, and $2 for a second hour.The upcoming performance schedule, which is subject to change, will be posted at flypittsburgh.com/PerformingArtsSeries :
