PITTSBURGH – Today, Delta will resume seasonal nonstop service to Paris (Charles de Gaulle Airport) from Pittsburgh International Airport for the tenth year. The first departure is scheduled for 7:44 p.m. and includes a water arch salute and gate celebration for passengers. The flight will operate daily during peak summer travel months through September 3.
This season, the service will be offered on a Boeing 767, which has 226 seats, including 26 in Business Class. In previous years, the service was offered on a 757 which had 168 seats, including 16 in Business Class.
The flight offers travelers a convenient way to get to Paris nonstop and avoid the hassles of East Coast connecting hubs when traveling to top markets in Europe. Last season, the most popular connections to/from the Paris flight were Italy, Hungary, Czech Republic, Spain and India.
“Delta’s decision to upgrade the aircraft represents nearly a decade of success on the route which started in 2009, and parallels the momentum of our region,” said Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis. “It offers additional seats and more opportunities for business and leisure travel, not only to Paris, but throughout Europe.”
At an event held for travel agents earlier this year, Von Campanella, General Manager for Global Sales at Delta, said 2017 was a standout year not only for Delta, but for all international flights from PIT.
“All three carriers (Delta, WOW and Condor) had robust seasons in 2017, and that speaks to the power of this community – travel agents, corporate partners, loyal frequent flyers – in demonstrating what a city can do for air service. Every year, the story has gotten better.”
Campanella added that with 26 Delta One lie-flat seats in Business Class and single aisle access, the new aircraft is “the largest and most comfortable plane you can fly to Europe from PIT.” The flight is also capable of carrying cargo which adds to the airport’s goal of supporting manufactures and shippers in the region.
The busy summer travel season is well underway at PIT with all transatlantic flights now up and running, as well as new nonstops to Montreal on Air Canada and new nonstop flights and travel packages to the Caribbean on Vacation Express, Southwest Airlines and Apple Vacations.
International traffic was up more than 36 percent in March and 33 percent year-to-date, with more than 223,000 travelers flying abroad. International traffic is expected to continue growing throughout the summer, bringing an additional $800 million in economic development to the Pittsburgh region, according a recent airport economic impact study.
