How to Buy Tickets

There are multiple ways to buy your airline tickets. Choose the method that’s most convenient for you.

Book Directly with the Airlines
  • If you are connecting from Bradford, DuBois or Lancaster to Pittsburgh, you can book directly at iflysouthern.com.
  • If you are traveling to another destination, take advantage of Southern’s interline agreements, using Pittsburgh as the connecting city.
    • The American Airlines interline is available at AA.com or by calling the American Airlines call center at 800.433.7300
    • The Alaska Air interline is available at alaskaair.com
Book Online Using a Travel Website
  • To take advantage of Southern’s interline agreement with American Airlines or Alaska Air, enter your city as the origin and your final destination.
  • If you are flying on an airline other than those listed above, search and book your ticket from your regional airport to Pittsburgh International Airport. Then, repeat the process from Pittsburgh International Airport to the final destination of your choice. Do not search from your regional airport straight to your final destination to help ensure you receive your preferred schedule.

Please remember to check the departure and arrival times and dates of both flights prior to booking to ensure ample time between flights. If you will be checking a bag, it is recommended that you allow 90 minutes between your flights. If you will not check a bag, 60 minutes is recommended.

What to Expect on Your Travel Day

Once you depart from your regional airport, you will land at Pittsburgh International Airport.

If you checked a bag

Prior to travel, please ensure your baggage adheres to your respective airline’s policy on dimensions and allowance. Southern Airways passengers can view their allowance here.

If your flight is booked through American Airlines or Alaska Air under a single reservation, your checked bags will be transferred automatically to your next flight.

If your connecting flight is booked on a separate reservation, please follow the steps below to claim and recheck your luggage.

  • Deboard the plane and follow signage to baggage claim.
  • Take the automated People Mover train to the Landside Terminal and then take an escalator or elevator down to the first floor to retrieve your bag(s) from the baggage claim area.
  • Take an escalator or elevator to the third floor and recheck your bag(s) with the appropriate airline for your next flight.
  • Follow signage to security and go back through the security checkpoint.
  • Once you are back in the airside terminal, enjoy the many amenities of Pittsburgh International Airport as you wait for your next flight.
If you did not check a bag
  • Passengers will land at gate B41.  All terminals will be easily accessible from where you land.
  • Deboard the plane and enjoy the many amenities of Pittsburgh International Airport. From shops to restaurants, you will have plenty to do as you wait for your second flight.

Do I have to go through security again?

If you checked a bag on your first flight and have a separate reservation for your next flight, then you will need to go through security again.

  • Deboard the plane and follow signage to baggage claim.
  • Take the automated People Mover train to the Landside Terminal and then take an escalator or elevator down to the first floor to retrieve your bag(s) from the baggage claim area.
  • Take an escalator or elevator to the third floor and recheck your bag(s) with the appropriate airline for your next flight.

If you checked a bag on your first flight and have a separate reservation for your next flight, then you will need to reclaim your bag in the baggage claim area.

How much time should I leave to connect to my next flight?

Please allow at least 60 minutes between your flights if you did not check bags. If you have checked baggage, we recommend you allow 90 minutes between flights.

Where do I find my checked bag?

Your checked bag(s) will be in the baggage claim area at Pittsburgh International Airport. To get there:

  • Deboard the plane and follow signs to baggage claim.
  • Take the automated People Mover train to the Landside Terminal and then take an escalator or elevator down to the first floor to retrieve your bag(s) from the baggage claim area.

If you are continuing on to a second destination:

  • Take an escalator or elevator to the third floor and recheck your bag(s) with the appropriate airline for your next flight.
  • Follow signage to security and go back through the security checkpoint.
What happens if my flight gets delayed and I miss my connecting flight?

For Southern Airways passengers using the interline agreement with American Airlines or Alaska Air, you will automatically be rebooked on the next flight to your destination.

If your connecting flight was booked on a separate reservation, contact a Customer Service Agent from the designated airline at the airport, or call their customer service number which can be located on their website.
